How Many Calculations Can the IBM Do?

IBM’s Supercomputer” Zurich” has long been rumoured to have supercomputing power. And indeed it does – the machine is so powerful that it can almost do a supercomputer work-out on your homework for you. How many millions of calculations can the IBM do, though? Well, here are some of the answers straight from the makers of this supercomputer.

The system can perform as many as 6 migrate calculations per second. Each multiply operation was carried out in less than 0.027 seconds. Multiplying, division and addition operations were all done in just over a second. That’s not all – the IBM System’s ability to do all this with great accuracy was demonstrated in a joint competition with the British government’s National Measurement Corporation (Natom) last year. The IBM was deemed the winner.

Can the IBM compute the number of hydrogen atoms in the HAP II hydrogen atom or the Planck’s constant? The IBM was found to be correct in both. How many petabytes will it store? The IBM was found to have the capacity to calculate the petabytes – or 1000 gigabytes – which is one petabyte being equal to 200 megabytes.

How many millions of people are using the IBM’s mainframe? The answer: One billion and six hundred thousand. The number of users is not to be considered a stumbling block; calculating the number of calculations the IBM can do is a simple matter of looking at the dimensions in which the IBM works.

How many times did the IBM system calculate the Fibonacci numbers? The answer: One million and five hundred thousand. When one calculates the IBM can do, one must consider the fact that it runs on four different processors instead of the four available on a PC. So how many calculations does the IBM perform?

How many teraflops can the IBM do? The answer: One TeraFLop – or one quadrillion floating point operations per second. The IBM uses a new type of software called IBM Openbench to execute its workload on the IBM mainframe. How many teraflops does the IBM perform? The answer: Three thousand and eight hundred.

How Many Calculations Can The Ibm Do?

How many seconds per day does the IBM run? The answer: Five. The calculation is done at random. The answer: eight seconds. Considering that each second is a second, it takes the IBM thirty seconds to do one billionths of a trillion calculations.

In order to answer the original question: How many computations can the IBM Do? You need to know how much memory the IBM has. If you have more than two billion calculations per day, you should really consider upgrading to the IBM mainframe. If you only have six thousand or so calculations per day, you don’t really need the IBM mainframe.

What is the storage capacity for the IBM mainframe? The answer: twenty petabytes. If you are doing a billion calculations per day, you might be better off purchasing your own server rather than spending the money to upgrade to the IBM mainframe. If you don’t have a server farm, you could very well buy all of the necessary hardware yourself, but this would probably be a very expensive endeavor. If you are only using the IBM mainframe to conduct a certain amount of work (a thousand calculations per day), you may not be able to justify the expense of the server.

Now back to the original question: How many calculations can the IBM do? Answer: One. Now that you know how many calculations the IBM can do, you can determine how many servers you will need to operate at the same time. If you only have twenty servers, and you only need to do ten thousand calculations each day, then you really don’t need to buy more servers.

On the other hand, if you are a larger company that does thousands of calculations per day, you will need to consider the size of the servers that you need. One suggestion is to choose a server with four processors. That way, if you do a lot of server programming, you will be able to outsource some of your processing to the IBM server and still have the resources that you need to handle the volume of traffic. In this manner, the IBM will be there to take care of the extra work while you handle your daily activities.

How many calculations can the IBM do? The answer: infinity. There is just no way to make it any smaller than one billion calculations per day. The IBM is here to handle the work, not you.
